Unlike a mainstream school, Pupil Referral Units (PRUs) do not have a Governing Body. The Department of Education guidance states that all Pupil Referral Units should have a Management Committee. Their role is to monitor procedures and standards and ensure the PRU is run effectively.
The Management Committee of the Herefordshire Pupil Referral Service includes representatives from the Local Authority, representatives from local schools, parents and members of the HPRS senior staff. The Management Committee meet once a term. As well as supporting the HPRS Heads in the development of the Centres, the committee also take an interest in safeguarding, admissions and attendance, behaviour and discipline, the curriculum and post-Ofsted action planning.
