What we do...
English at St David’s Centre is the “backbone” of all of the subjects taught throughout the provision.
We aim to support pupils using exciting and relevant approaches to literacy, enabling all pupils to access a full and enriching curriculum; as well as, helping to foster a love of English and prepare all pupils for adult life.
We focus on improving literacy skills through access to recognised qualifications that will lead to further study and access to colleges and apprenticeships.
It is our aim that all pupils will leave St David’s Centre with at least one qualification in English. We approach this as though we are on stepping stones towards success with each pupils needs supporting their starting points.
We currently offer qualifications in:
- AQA’s Step up to English (both Silver and Gold steps as applicable)
- EdExcel’s Functional Skills Level 1 and Level 2 English
- AQA’s new linear GCSE English Language
Alongside the English curriculum we also run a very popular and successful Film Club that allows pupils to access a range of genres of films that complement their learning.
Pupils will use the knowledge gained here to help them complete film reviews that will be available for you to read here.
